Active Transportation in Thunder Bay will be the focus of this year’s Gathering. Come help us all get around the city in ways that are good for us and the environment.
Registration is now open for the 4th Annual NW Climate Gathering.
We recommend attending the full event from 10 am to 3 pm. Doors open at 9:30; come get your name tag and start to meet people before the formal opening.
Lunch is provided, attendance is free but donations (tax-deductible!) are welcome. Register and donate below.
The day will include:
- Elder-led opening and closing prayers and smudge
- Think Like a Mountain (Joanne Macy) based activity to ground, connect and get us sparking
- Orientation to Active Transportation organizations and initiatives here now
- Opportunity to spark &/or feed efforts to get Thunder Bay the infrastructure necessary to make active transportation a safe option to get anywhere in the City, year-round
- Photovoice stories of Climate Mobilization wished for, and fears carried to inspire and inform our conversations
- Introduction of Creatives for Climate Artists in Residence (creating original art in response to their participation in this event)
- A photo-corner to celebrate those who come dressed:
- Cycle-ready (MAMIL or MAWIL…)
- Far-From-Fast-Fashion (celebrate your second-hand or enduring look)
- Post-event Ride / Walk / Roll along the new Oliver Rd. Trail
The day is intended to refresh and renew Climate-Action seekers, provide a safe and inclusive space in which to build our community and help spark and nourish lasting, impactful change.
An intergenerational event to which all are welcome! Childcare is not provided, but child-welcoming crafting & board-game activities are available throughout the day.

Bring your bike, scooter, roller blades, etc. and stay for the ride / walk / roll up Oliver Rd on the new trail.
Bring a book you loved that relates to Mobilizing for Climate Action, and prepare to trade it for another donation to our BookWorm Swap table.
Childcare is not provided, but children are welcome, and their adult’s needs to support them are in turn supported. Crafting & board game activities are available throughout the day.

How can we support each other to face the unprecedented climate challenges with hope and optimism? How do we join the diverse climate activities that are happening across our region to hone our momentum and create a united movement?
Join us for an engaging two-day event filled with activities focused on building local resilience through climate action and community building. Designed as a local hub, joining together the wide variety of climate organizations and initiatives taking place across the northwestern Ontario region, this event will explore practical strategies, innovative ideas, and collective solutions to empower all of us to make a difference.
Together, we’ll highlight local individuals and organizations to share more on how communities can adapt, thrive, and support one another while addressing the pressing need for sustainable action. You’ll also learn about the many projects that are already taking place in our region, and how you can get involved.

Discuss “Living the 1.5 Degree Liftstyle” with Author, Activist and Architect Lloyd Alter
Friday October 17th @ 19:00 (7:00-8:00 PM) at Entershine Bookshop
As a special kickoff to the Gathering, we’re hosting an intimate evening with Lloyd Alter, renowned climate advocate and author of Living the 1.5 Degree Lifestyle. Lloyd will share practical insights on how everyday choices can help us stay within the carbon budget needed to limit global warming—and how embracing “radical sufficiency” can lead to a more hopeful, sustainable future.
Both events are free to attend and open to anyone passionate about creating a better world. Whether you’re deeply involved in climate work or just beginning your journey, we hope you’ll join us to connect, learn, and be inspired.
Who is the Gathering for?
The Gathering is for climate-committed and climate-curious people. Held in Thunder Bay, our discussions centre around climate action in Northwest Ontario.
